Ok, maybe not afraid of the rain, but close…

On second thought, one of our dogs might actually be afraid of the rain. The second a drop of water falls from the sky, she refuses to go outside onto the grass, and if we force her to, she tiptoes around the dewy blades as gently as possible, acting like we are forcing a horrible death upon her.

With some of the recent storms that have recently taken over Ohio during the what should be sleeping hours of the morning, sleep has been hard to come by. If not for the loud bangs of thunder or the bright flashes of lightning, then it’s two 40+ pound dogs who think they are sneaky as they try to tip-toe onto the bed one paw at a time, then quickly lay down in a ball as still as possible. Stealthy they are not, but totally adorable they are.

Every day, one or two food trucks park outside of Nationwide on High Street in downtown Columbus, ready for the lunch rush to hit. Last year, one popped up with the name Kickin Chicken Mobile. I didn’t think much of it and passed by many days on my daily lunch walks. Every day, though, there would be a dancing ‘chicken’ next to the truck to draw attention, and every day my curiosity would grow, my desire to try them out increasing. One day, I decided to give them a taste…

…and an addiction was born.

This past weekend, my husband asked me to make something in the crockpot. Considering going to the grocery store doesn’t thrill me at all (I might even rather fold laundry), I started thinking about what we had around the house that I could throw together without having to leave home unnecessarily. I knew we had ground turkey, so I started looking up ‘crock pot ground turkey recipes’ in search of anything that could be good where I had 80% of the ingredients and could improvise the rest. What I found was simply called Slow Cooker Chili. Because that name is kind of boring, I am going to call it Taco Chili for the fun of it. Now, my first thought was ‘Chili when it’s 90 degrees outside?” But as I started reading the ingredients, I was check-marking off in my mind what I had, and when it was realized I kind of had most everything, thought ‘to hell with it’, and in the crockpot the ingredients went.

I’ll be the first to admit that I often complain about living in Ohio. It’s either too cold (I loathe the cold), too humid, too rainy… you get the idea. It seems that we really only get about ten perfect-weather days here and the rest of the time, I picture myself lying on the beach while concentrating on my writing. I’ll also be the first to admit that I often say that Ohio has nothing to do and nothing pretty as far as scenery goes.

This past weekend, my friend Jenn and I went to the Hocking Hills area. The primary purpose of the trip was to do a Ropes Challenge Course at R Adventure Park. I went into it not exactly knowing what I was getting into but went with an open mind. When we got to the course, I looked up, and my first thought was, “What the hell did I agree to.” However, before I knew it, I found myself getting harnessed up and taken up this monstrosity of a tower, ready to take on the course.

This past Saturday, June 4th, was my good friend Ayleen’s wedding to her now husband, Tom. After a thirteen month engagement, it’s hard to believe that the day has come and gone, but I feel lucky to have been asked to be a bridesmaid and was able to be a part of their big day.

IMG_0528Before Saturday, the past month has been filled with fun pre-wedding activities, from the Wedding Shower on May 1st to the Bachelorette Party on May 14th. For the bachelorette party, the hostess, Jackie, held a Pure Romance Party, and afterward we all went out for dinner and bowling at a local place called Rule 3. It was a lot of fun and we all spent quite a bit of time laughing. Let’s just say that my bowling skills are, well…non-existent. I think my top game was a 63 and can say with confidence that the six-year-old on the lane next to us had more skill.

I have been a fan of the music group Blaqk Audio since 2007. When I first heard them on the radio, I instantly loved their sound. The singer of the band sounded very familiar to me (huge AFI/Davey Havok fan), so because telling who sings the songs on the radio takes so much effort *sarcasm*, I googled ‘Davey Havok’ when I got home that night and found that he and Jade Puget were in another band called Blaqk Audio.

I KNEW that voice was familiar!
