Over the past week, I have indulged in reading the book Imitating Art by Sarah Parry. Below is my review on it. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and have given it 4 out of 5 stars. It is available through Amazon. I hope that you give it a chance because I fully believe that you will enjoy it as much as I did, as there is an aspect to it that will suit everybody.
I can honestly say that I really enjoyed this book. From the very beginning, when Nell’s scheming ex-husband is introduced, all the way until the end, it was a page-turner.
From the start of Imitating Art, you can get a glimpse into what life is like for Nell. She is a successful author whose debut novel took off, and her ex-husband, Patrick, cannot leave her alone about her fame. While Nell is just trying to come up with an idea for her next novel by the deadline and concentrating on being a mother to her daughter, Laurel, Patrick is going on about how she is only famous because of him and that he should get a cut of her profits. After all, according to him, the book is based on their lives and their breakup. Add his new wife, Stacey, into the mix, and Nell has got her hands full.
When Patrick goes missing, a couple of cops, Rob and Rachel, are called in to help with the case. And then Laurel disappears too. Frantic, and going on any clues that she is given, Nell, with the support of Rob, set off on a journey to find Laurel and get to the bottom of Patrick’s whereabouts while trying to ignore growing feelings for each other.
Without giving away any spoilers, there is some humor, brewing romances, twists, and surprises. Patrick truly lives up to his name of being a d-bag ex-husband and will go to any length to get what he wants and doesn’t care who he hurts in the process. He kind of gets what he deserves, though, showing that karma does come around to those who deserve it. There are some pleasant surprises too at the end when it comes to Stacey.
All in all, I am very glad that I read this book. I read the bulk of it in 2 days because I just simply could not put it away. It ended perfectly, and I am looking forward to reading more from Sarah Parry!
